Izamal, known as the City of Hills, recalling the pyramids that were there upon the arrival of the Spaniards, was an important Maya religious center, located 71 km from the City of Mérida, in the central northern region of the Yucatán Peninsula.
Izamal is characterized by its tranquility, safety, cobblestone streets, yellow buildings, and its beautiful Franciscan Convent of San Antonio de Padua, which is located in the center of the city.
Currently, Izamal has regained greater importance because it is where a station of the Maya Train was established, which travels through different points in five states of the Mexican Republic: Yucatán, Campeche, Quintana Roo, Tabasco, and Chiapas.
